Walker Evans Research

Focusing on 'New Topography'

My brief was very broad and I am deciding to focus on one main theme. Doing research and i found the kind of photography I am very interested in. Its called New Topography and I think Ireland has so many wonderful areas which this theme will work very well with and I will hopefully get very nice inspirational photos. A few of the photographers and people inspired by this type of photography, which I am very interested in researching are Walker Evans, Stephen Shore, Robert Adams, Bernd And Hilla Becher.
All these photographers capture landscapes and man made sculptures separate or incorporated together. I really like the way they use negative space and think a lot about the composition.

Research : Blogs

http://negativespace.photoshelter.com/gallery-list

I love this website for different aspects of Photography. Browsing through the different blogs and themes gives you a wider knowledge of what is actually capable in photography.

My favourite blogs in this website are:

SouthWest / Arizona
SouthWest / Colorado
Latin America and Caribbean

..mainly because there are a lot of landscape photos and feel as though it would relate to my brief a lot.

Research : negative and open space

http://www.photoble.com/photography-tips-tricks/using-negative-and-open-space-in-photography/

In this blog, The photography captures photos of buildings, locations, landmarks and sculptures but under the theme of negative and open space which I really like. Even that there isn't much in the photos, it still captures the beauty and a good deal of information about the area that the photos were taken.

Little change

I have decided that the brief is a little bit broad and needs to be narrowed down to a certain theme. I am changing my brief and basing it on Derry City instead of the whole of Ireland. I am also going to run a theme throughout the photography, for e.g absence, space, environment, travel, etc. I think this will be a lot easier to handle because my first brief wasn't exactly defined enough.
